Chicago Printers Row Book Fair.
Nancy and I took a road trip today. Why is it when I say that to people they get this weird look in their eyes. Its not like we ever get into trouble. This time its up to Chicago for the Printer's Row Book Fair. Sponsored by the Chicago Trib,Target,Barnes and Noble and CSPAN. Off we go at 6am. First stop the newly remodeled Dekalb Oasis. Its still an over priced Mc Donald's on the side of the hiway.
It wasn't all fun and games. We dropped in at the son's house to take in a 3000 pound sofa bed.Then onto the city.
Interstate 88 looking east.
Don't want to know how much this cost the state...nice if your lost.

I think I heard of this place
Some guy reading his sad poetry."The cold mud stuck to my shoe as the smell of decay filled my nose...I knew I was home again."
Nancy next to an antique printing press.
Went to a place called 17 West in the old Bergdorff Hotel for lunch.We had Helga as a waitress sweet young girl. (tongue stuck firmly in check about that) Food ok not great. Watercress and fennel salad...looked like someone had snipped pieces off a plant and put it on the plate. I didn't know if I wanted to eat it or put it in water to try and grow roots. Dark wood. dark place. tryed to take a picture with out a flash...draw attention to myself. So I took a picture of the window that was behind us. Its a glass of Root beer. This place is supposed to be known for it.
Got back home by 6,tired, hot and sweaty. Don't think we will be going back next year. And learned and important lesson.... few places sell Dr Pepper in downtown chicago.....

Presenting Mr. and Mrs. Leatherman
I went to four weddings yesterday. Sang at a couple of them. This is the only one that I remembered to take out the camera for.. Didn't get as many pictures as I wanted because the camera acting up.

News From Eclaire
LeClaire police were again called out to Holland street because of a disturbance at one of the home. They found an elderly woman on the roof of her home beating the tv antenna. She said that if it wasn't for that stupid thing that her stories would turn out better. She mumbled something about Ducky and Dirk and James West pants. They finally were able to get her off the roof with a promise of chocolate..

Quick Note From the Girls.
Dear Aunt Sarah,
Just a quick note to tell you what's been going on. We had Easter and mom and grandma got us all kinds of candy.. But they wouldn't let us have any until just before we went to the uncles house.
Constance was running all over the place and I just played nice...
If playing nice means taking all the books off the shelve after he told you not then yes you played nice Savannah. It also got us into trouble...remember that.
A misunderstanding between us...I thought I locked that door to keep you out.
He made us sit quiet. And then you fell asleep. and I picked the lock.
Yeah missed out on quality play time....but you woke us up Constance with your "singing".
What wrong with my singing?
Let me be the first to tell you sister dear don't quit your day job.

Trivial Masters
Last night was the last LeClaire trivia game for the season. They take the summer off to recharge their batteries and come up with new questions. Our little group came in first. It didn't look good in the middle of the game...4th place of only 6 teams. then the last two rounds the brains kicked in and we raced ahead to 1st.

Illinois: America's Most American State
WASHINGTON (AP) -- White, rural and homogeneous. New Hampshire and Iowa play big roles in choosing presidential candidates but don't look much like the rest of the country.A better bellwether might be Illinois. It's the most average state, according to an Associated Press analysis of data from the Census Bureau.
Illinois is the fifth largest state, with a big city in Chicago, rolling countryside in the south and a lot of sprawling suburbs. And it has Peoria, which, it turns out, really is a barometer of America's preferences. Many companies continue to use the city in central Illinois as a test market, taking literally the adage about how things play there.
"Illinois has always been a mirror of America," said state Sen. Kirk Dillard, a Republican. "With all due respect to South Carolina, Iowa and New Hampshire, they are not reflective of the overall American population."
The AP ranked each state on how closely it matched national levels on 21 demographic factors, including race, age, income, education, industrial mix, immigration and the share of people living in urban and rural areas. The rankings were then combined to determine the state that best mirrors the country as a whole.
Illinois was followed by Oregon, Michigan, Washington and Delaware.
West Virginia was the least typical state, poorer, whiter, and more rural, followed by Mississippi, New Hampshire, Vermont and Kentucky.
Iowa ranked 41st, meaning nine states and the District of Columbia look less like the country as a whole. South Carolina, which also has an early primary, ranked 24th.
America is becoming more diverse, with minorities topping 100 million for the first time in 2006, according to Census Bureau figures being released Thursday. About one in three Americans was a minority last year, a slight increase.
In 2006, the nation was 67.6 percent white, non-Hispanic; 15 percent Hispanic; 13.4 percent black; 5 percent Asian; 1.5 percent American Indian or native Alaskan and 0.3 percent Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander. The percentages add up to more than 100 in part because some people identify with more than one race and Hispanics can be of any race.
Illinois' racial composition matches the nation's better than any other state. Education levels are similar, as is the mix of industry and the percentage of immigrants. Incomes in Illinois are a little higher and the state is more urban the rest of the nation. But the age of the population is very close to the country's mix of minors, seniors and those 18 to 64.
The Illinois Senate approved a bill Tuesday that would move the state's presidential primary from March to Feb. 5, and Gov. Rod Blagojevich has promised to sign it. Once he does, Illinois will join a growing number of states trying to increase their clout by scheduling earlier primaries.
An argument sometimes cited for the moves: increasing the diversity of voters early in the primary season. "States that are quite vanilla ought not to be making the decisions for us," said Illinois House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie, a Democrat.
Iowa and New Hampshire have played prominent roles in choosing presidential candidates for years, with Iowa holding caucuses in January and New Hampshire holding the first primary.
Both states are more than 90 percent white, making them among the least diverse in the country.
Nevertheless, officials in both states have defended their status and pledged to maintain it.
New Hampshire voters are well-informed and steeped in democracy, comfortable asking tough questions of town officials and presidential candidates alike, said Ray Buckley, chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party.
"Ask anyone who has been to the New Hampshire primary and they will tell you about the intensity of the questions," Buckley said. "You are going to have to answer tough questions about Katrina, about drug use in inner cities. You are going to have to answer questions about the war in Iraq and about the slaughter in Darfur. ...

I waited five months for this.
Emmerdale the British soap that I follow has had a who dun it for the last 5 months. They have a online game to go along with it...Who Killed Tom King? Well I hate to say it but I don't care. His death didn't have that many ripples in anyone else's story lines.
The online game wasn't that great. I thought it would be like one long game of Clue. No luck. I had stuff from the other storylines that had nothing to do with the murder. But tomorrow its all over. I say Len...but that's to easy.

Looking Back...
It was pointed out to me from a regular reader that I haven't added anything since my birthday,which was a month ago. I've been really busy,lazy, And haven't had the chance to do anything...
I took vacation the week of my birthday and tried to drag it out the whole week like always. Lunches and dinners the whole week. I also got jobs singing that week. All funerals...that's ok easy money. Did have trouble with a couple cheap Lutherans.
Was going to write about the week the next Monday but turned and the tv and saw the horror coming out of Virginia. Its time like these that makes me wonder what would drive a person to do something like that. The families of the victims and the survivors will never get any answers. One nice thing was that I only saw one tabloid do one of their stupid headlines...I think this was too tragic even for them to try and trash it.
Month moved on and it was a SSDD time at work. The managers dad passed away suddenly. When she said what he was like and that the docs gave him 6 months it was hard not to say...I don't think you will have that long.
Life moves on.
I did one of my grand adventures. The Queen went to the Kentucky Derby this year. So I decided I was going to see if I could get a look at her. Didnt' get down to Louisville until that night but did follow the royal watchers group the next day. Saw her go into and then come out of church. Well saw her hat. She is always ringed with the guys in dark suits.
Later as she toured a Stud farm I tryed to get a picture but it only looked like little blobs because of the distance away from her...Guy next to me had a lens that looked like two feet long. I was such a novice at this. Had the car searched...the guy looked it over and saw Iowa...You drove it from Iowa? Really?....yes and stop making fun of it.
Oh Kentucky smells like horse s**t.
Now onto the countdown to the day of the weddings. 5 in one day. If no mess ups I should be able to make them all. Is there a worlds record for attending weddings in one day?

hubbub over canceled Buckingham concert
OMAHA, Neb. - The managers of a Lincoln theater say Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham's "diva-like behavior" doomed his concert there this week, and that the sound system he blames was not the problem.
In a message on Buckingham's Web site, "technical difficulties related to sound" were blamed for Wednesday's cancellation. Buckingham's message said the theater in downtown Lincoln refused Buckingham's request to use his own equipment to supplement its sound system.
"Lindsey prides himself on delivering the very best performance and production for every show, but in this case he wasn't able to do so," Buckingham's message said. "Lindsey hopes his fans in Lincoln will understand, and he looks forward to returning to Lincoln but under much better conditions."
Buckingham has been touring since October in support of his first solo album in 14 years, "Under the Skin."
Rococo Theatre events director Pam Gregorios said this was the first time it has ever had a performer cancel a show.
"Rococo staff and management were put off by his diva-like behavior ... and wondered if he always felt it necessary to be so rude to people who are simply trying to put on a good show," Gregorios said.
Buckingham's representatives did not immediately respond to questions e-mailed to them Thursday afternoon.
But a section of the Web site about the guitars Buckingham uses included a quote about how the equipment he uses isn't that important.
"It's all in the player really," Buckingham said to Rolling Stone magazine in 1979. "Look at somebody like Hendrix. It didn't matter what guitar he had or even if it was in tune. The thing is, if you can connect, you can get anything you want out of an instrument. There's no dream instrument that could give you everything. You just have to use your imagination."
Buckingham spent an hour checking the sound at the theater and rehearsing a couple songs before deciding to cancel about an hour before show time, Gregorios said.
"I can only speculate as to the disappointment of the six hundred and some odd fans who arrived to find the show canceled," Gregorios said.
Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 but bolted the group in 1987 over creative differences. The group has reunited twice since then for albums and tours.
Ticket holders will receive refunds.
