Sunday Walk In The Park part 1

I'm always on the look out for differant and interesting places to walk. I thought I would try out West Lake Park since someone works out there and makes it sound like a paradise.

The happy helpful park lady.
In case I get lost

Children's Forest. I think that meant small trees.

I was aiming for the bird not the couple making out on the left...which you can't see either

Way over there is the beach. I didn't get around to it.
The trail I did find...forging the creek..and not getting muddy

My one trail in the woods I found..up the hill and around the corner and back to where I started.

So the plus side....its not that big of a place and with the lakes in the summer it should be a cool breeze most of the time
Minus side....no real trails...the lakes ..mosquito havens.

Sunday Walk In The Park part 2

With the walking around the park I did,I came to Railroad Lake. Don't know why its called that but I'm sure if I asked the happy park lady she would tell me...in detail much much detail

Savannah would hate this dock...it rocked and rolled
So quiet and calm

What would Emily Post make of Facebook.

The other day the local news had a piece about netiquette. It focused mostly on Facebook. The person on there said that people tell to personal of stuff. I say that if you allowed someone to be your friend on there that you should expect to read stuff that they would tell a friend. Some people do go over board and tell about every trip to the bathroom, that may just be what kind of person they are. If you don't like it delete them and join the white glove drinking group.
There is a group on Facebook called the."Everytime I get on the computer I end up on Facebook." OH how true it is. Mousehunt and the farm are my favorites. But its fun to see people I haven't seen or heard of in years. Kids I went to school with, former co workers, and people from all over the world. I give it another year and most will move on the the next shiny thing. Twitter anyone?

Back to the Beginning

At the beginning of December my computer died. After 5 years of faithful service it just went off and wouldn't come back on. Some said it was the power source or something else that sounded expensive. I knew the time was right to get a new one. My Windows 2000 which I loved dearly was no longer supported by Microsoft.
I really didn't feel like going around and checking all the different places. So I went to Best Buy. I had to wait while the young man was helping someone else. And I guess no one else worked in computers cuz anyone I saw go past did it fast with head down. No eye contact. Finally he was finished and I asked him a couple questions about the one that I liked. He told me I was stupid because it wasn't a Mac...I let him go on for a bit then told him that if he wanted to keep his job that he would shut his little mouth and not make the customer feel like they are stupid by pushing something on them that they don't want. Yes I did go on a bit and did have him in tears but really.
Got it home and hooked it up and hated it. No not because of anything the little boy said. Vista. Microsoft's latest way to drive the American public nuts.
Everytime I'd go to open a program or do anything a pop up would ask..."do you really want to do this?"...Well duh I wouldn't have clicked it if I didn't. I found a way to stop most of those coming up.
Then the other problem. It really didn't like my dial up. I could go out and make a sandwich, balance my check book, and play a couple rounds of free cell before a page would load. Running 56K but still. Slow...and god forbid that I was chatting to someone and trying to surf the net. So after it took almost 3 hrs to do my taxes online this year I signed up for high speed internet. I'm so proud of myself when the stuff came I hooked it all up by my self and ITS WORKS!!!! Now I get no sleep and I've become addicted to You tube. You go Susan Boyle....Anyway. yes I'm in the 21st century and loving it. Now I just need to get a bigger monitor and I'll be set. I still hate Vista.

Afternoon at Middle Park

Picked up the girls from day care and then we went to the park. We saw deer off in the trees> The girls wanted a closer look so we tried to see them up close. Two ladies came down the path and when they saw the deers they screamed and off they ran.

DDDDEEEEEERRRRRRR

The Lagoon at Middle Park. I thought that I would have to pull Constance out of it. She kept running up to the edge and looking in. Savannah was fine looking from the grass side of the side walk

Girls wait til I get there.....wait..wait...oh...

The Bridge had a little bounce in it and Savannah wouldn't go across.

Constance watching all the geese and ducks in the Lagoon coming at them...They could smell the french fries on them.

Come back and feed me.....

Mac And Cheese And A Run In The Park

Had the girls for the weekend. They have grown so much. They are at the stage that they ask questions that I really don't know how to ask. But they got here and I made them dinner. Then they got wild on me (it could have been the 2LBs of M&Ms I gave them) So we went for a walk in the park near here. The sun was still up and it was in the upper 60s. Two times around the park. I don't think I'll go back to this park for my walks. Its right on the main streets and the exhaust fumes got to me,and the people walking kinda rude. So any way we walked around a could times and we went past the church at the one end. The girls see the cross on the top and ask if Aunt Sarah goes there? No she doesn't...Does she know the people that go there? ...Not that I know of...See the questions..And those are some of the easier ones.
Then nature calls for one of the girls so we leave. That night when it was bed time the girls had little fight in them and out like a light in under 15 minutes.

For breakfast the next morning we had waffles and sausage. It was Constance that ate her's all down. Savannah picked at hers. Then for the 200000 time they watched Happy Feet. We thought about going for a walk but it only got to the low 40s here. Then we played hide and seek and 20 questions...Why do they ring the bells at the church across the street from you? To wake the people there. :) Then I got the I'M HUNGRY.I guess waffles just don't stick. So for lunch it was the home made Mac and Cheese...no box or instant...I was told I'm almost as good a cooker as Mom...

Now all through this weekend every time I'd look over the girls would have put their little stuffed dog. Its the one I call Evil Dog...it attacks you when your not looking...the girls would put it down and then laugh and laugh until I would notice it. And then it would attack...cujo cujo noooooo. I was told it was a girl dog not a boy dog.Boy dogs wouldn't do that...

MMMM Mac and Cheese.

Give peace a chance

OH NO.....EVIL DOG!!!!!!!!

River Front Walk

Since I've been told I'm a diabetic one of the many things I'm supposed to do is exercise. Running around the bookstore isn't enough I guess. 20-30 minutes of walking three times a week is what they would like...more if the time or energy. I've tried to walk the Malls but that ends up being to expensive...One lap to window shop and then second lap to buy..
So it was really nice out today and I had no real excuse of why not,so I went for a walk down on the river.
I went to the marina at the East Village as my starting point. There are little signs that tell you how far each place is. I figured the Bettendorf city limits would be a good start. 1mile each way. 1 mile out ok but half way back..ouch...heel ....blister...darn...took off my shoes and socks and came back barefoot...I figure it was a better risk then making it worse with the blister. Did my blood test when I got home..89. For those that don't know..yes that's really good.

Looking down river at Davenport on the Right

Maybe I'll try for St Paul at a later date...

Ebay bound?

A couple years ago my dad cleaned out the cupboards and gave us some of it. My take from it was a set of coffee mugs, serving plate and cream and sugar set. Each cup has a different picture from around the world. There is Parliament from England. The Eiffel Tower from France. the Colosseum from Italy and on I don't think they were ever used. No one seems to remember where we got them from. I'm thinking it was one of those one piece a week things from Eagles. It was how we got a new set of encyclopedias. Or it could have been from the gas station. I haven't found anything on the net or in any books. If any one out there has any idea leave a comment. I don't know if I could ever use them. So afraid to break one...

The marking on the back of the pieces read Kaysons Fine Ironstone China copyright 1966

Easter Peep

Since the D word has entered my life. My darling sister has tried to help me with keeping to the the diabetic diet. With Easter coming up I know that I'm going to be tempted with all the candy. Peeps are one of my favourites. Get the package and open just a corner to let them dry out a little then eat the whole pack....This year maybe one...or two. three but that would be pushing it...Well Mary has got me a peep that I can have and enjoy.....I just have to make sure that the niece doesn't try to microwave this one..

The Theme is?

Most blogs have some kind of theme or common thread that runs through it. I thought that mine would be my thoughts on my TV watching. Brit soaps specifically.
Well I get so back logged on those that when I do watch its 5-6 hours worth at a time. And giving my thoughts on that would be difficult.
Then I thought the girls. Letters to Aunt Sarah and outtings with them. Then some one ruined that for me by saying that perverts are out looking for pictures of little kids....ick...Makes me want to take all the pictures down.

Now I think I have a theme.Illness. Does n't that just sound uplifting and something that you want to came back for?
I'm a new diabetic. 2/2/09 one of those days that will stick with me. Stick with me...ha a pun and having to take my blood samples...
Now a month later is it any better...well no. I've still got it but the symptoms are less. I no longer drink 6 gallons of water a day and hit the rest room every hour day and night. I take my two little pills a day and eat healthy. Now here is a funny thing. I went for some diabetic education and was told I'm eating healthy but not getting enough carbs in my diet. I'm not eating enough...WOW...I don't ever think I've heard that in my life. So now I have to find the stuff that I cut out and take it in little portions.

I'm still not friends with Vlad my lancette. I don't like the sight of blood no matter how small and never will.

I was asked how I felt about it and I was honest. I'm pissed at my body for doing this to me...I'm taking the darn pills why isn't everything all better now? I should find out who makes the pills because they must be making a mint.

Next week I'm going for 10hrs of diabetic training. I'm sure that will be fun. It should at the price they are charging. Must not think about price when it comes to ones health...but still...

the Yankee Woodshop Its not

After my diabetic eduction I decided I needed to go shopping. Let all the info thrown at me time to seep into my brain. I hit the near by Goodwill to see if they had any interesting paperbacks. Found a couple and then was ready to walk out and I saw this. I thought wow its ugly. Someones project from 10 years ago. Then I got to look at it and think its solid and in pretty good shape. Maybe a coat of paint and its wouldn't look that bad. So I got it $5. Then I got it home and thought where am I going to put it? It fit fine in the kitchen. I think its a small side board. Some place to put the silver and place mats and napkins. It will be just another place to put junk...The picture make it look beige but really its a light purple...or at least I think.....First I need to get that storage smell out of it.

What Happen to January

The old saying goes "time flies when your having fun." Well that's a bunch of BS. The month of January slide by and I wasn't having fun. On New Years Day I heard one of the radio stations say its all going to be fine in 09. Haven't heard that since...wonder why? Banks, automakers, housing, jobs going away. Who's to blame...Lets not go into that...
So what happened in January. Well a some birthdays and a couple deaths. My darling older sisters turned 55 and 53 and I have a great niece who is 17 now.....oh that makes me feel old.

So what else happened in January...I haven't feel good since thanksgiving. Took the symptoms and looked into Web MD. It was something I knew I had a big chance of getting. Family history and all that fun stuff...Diabetes. Did I do anything about it? No I waited for almost three months...well part of that was getting in to see a doctor. I did get a lot of not taking new patients also.
So I dragged through Christmas and the New Year. But it wasn't going to stop me from taking the road trip of my life.
I went out to D.C. to see the Inauguration. Stayed with a friend and froze by but off. But I was there. Back about the Washington Monument. The parade we watched from the comfort of his home. From what you saw on tv it was that great and more. Na Na Hey Hey...good bye.

When I got back it was back to the grindstone and inventory at work. So that brings me to the end of the month. There was a lot of other drama going on but just let that slide into history and forget about it.
So now its February I'm trying to get my head around carbs and sugars and Diet Dr Pepper. Is it all going to be fine in 09 maybe...

I think its neat
